Branding/Identity/Art Direction/Design for a film production company
Planetfilms is one of Malaysia’s most distinguished film production houses. Their roster of award winning film directors have filmed a variety of television commercials over the years spanning every genre under the sun. From Lands Unknown developed a concept for the branding that was based around the abstract themes of Evolution, Biology and Psychology. These themes reflect the underlying philosophies of the founders and the work that was produced.
With that in mind we created a brooding, atmospheric website which featured an ever-changing ‘skin’, effectively never being the same site twice each time a user visits. The navigation rotated in their own orbits around Planet’s logo, the centre of this abstract online universe. Clicking on the navigation items would expand into further content, revealing more.

Another interesting component of the website was a downloadable generative ‘Psychological Species’ screensaver. Once installed, it generated infinite variants of what we like to call ‘Psychological Species’ on your monitor that represented the various directors of Planetfilms. Each one species was unique and never to be repeated once it fades away to present the next one.
The design language also extended to these beautifully jewel-boxed DVD packs to promote the reels of Planetfilms’ various film directors.
